What to know before you cut
- The top edge of the screen should sit at eye level, or a little below, and an arm's length away.
- Use the free desk and chair height calculator to get the heights that fit you before you set the measurements.
- The footrest tilts between 10 and 15 degrees for comfortable ankles. Stick rubber feet underneath and non-slip rubber on top.
- For a heavy monitor or a long riser, use thicker board: the preview warns you about the span.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know how high to make the riser?
Type your height in the desk and chair height calculator: it shows where the top edge of the screen should be and how much to raise it.
Can I keep my keyboard under the riser?
Yes. The riser has its stretcher at the back, so the front stays free.
Why a footrest?
When your desk is higher than your chair allows, a footrest returns the floor to your feet so your back can rest.
Which plywood should I use?
Birch plywood or similar, 3/4" (about 18 mm), with the real thickness entered.
